Car Explosion

...it was complex and laborious work includes both sophisticated technology and a lot of time with the sleepless nights and 7 day work weeks. The task was to create the full 3D explosion of the jeep. All stages including drama and story of the explosion, prepering 3D models, simulating and calculating of the fluids ... and at last — compose all together -- all the work fell on me.





I supposed the idea was to shoot the real explosion... but than something changed and they decided to make whole computer graphic explosion.

I collected plenty of reference and tutorial material and started ...

I resimulated explosion several times until achieved the desired result of the fire behaviour. For the record — I observe all the interaction with the enviroment objects. Finally i got the whole pure 100% detailed 3D explosion. You could circled it with the camera, to render from any point you like, to fly throug it and to render with any shader.

The next stage was to render out the simulated material into the passes for next using them in compose . After a little research I outlined the necessary passes and rended them.



I prepared the 3D car model and drawing enviroment. I projected the mattepainting on 3D objects. Also I prepared debris, obstacles, smoke and dust.

The compositing the final stage wasn't any easier than previous
stages. It was a lot of layers of explosion, fire, smoke, debris, 3D enviroment, spakles, glasses fragments and additional footage materials. All of them in HD resolution.

Eventually i managed all the stages ... and i thought it was my small victory.

Bomb in glovebox

How looks like car explosion from inside the car saloon?
Nobody knows. The real shooting is dangerous even if to protect the camera from the fire. It was hard to find any of reference footage or video for this task. I had nothing else but to rely mainly on my imagination.

The explosion are not suppoused to be very big. It is more like small BOOM with some terrible consequences ... mostly for the car.



Trying to understand that i prepare the mattepainting of the burned car, and 3d model of the saloon.



To simulate the real explosion i demolished the corpus, broke away the pads and some elements of car saloon, added smoke and shaked the car body.

Also I prepared the debris flying and collide with objects inside the car.

Car Axident

..the car crashing, view from inside.

Almost everything was done in compose, exept the glass fragments flying from the cracked door window. As always i represent here the source material of the car shooting on the green screen



and the source material of the car run into the camera.




The task was to create the impact to simulate the true car axident.

Taras Bulba

"Fatherland is something that soul is looking for, that dearer to her entire.."

Taras Bulba (alternative title Zaporizhian Sich) is a historical drama film, based on the novel of the same title by Nikolai Gogol. The movie has been filmed in different locations in Ukraine such as Zaporizhia, Khotyn and Kamianets-Podilskyi as well as in Poland. The release date is the April 2, 2009, to coinciding with Gogol’s bicentennial.

This is the most interesting feature film project in which I have taken part.

As far back as i was a pupil in the Theoretic Lyceum i carefully studied the literary works of Gogol. In those days, he impressed me a kind of mysticism and vividness of images.
Taras Bulba — one of the greatest novel -- is a story about Ukraine's Cossack warriors and their campaign to --defend their lands from the advancing Polish armies.

Here i present a few shots i worked on. My duties included adding the people on the background, adding the blood in fight scenes, some clean up works and other...

..the tales of the falling snow

A million feathers falling down,
A million stars that touch the ground,
So many secrets to be found
Amid the falling snow.

... another chronicle in my blog. Wet snow that falls on the asphalt leaving only mud.
The challenge was to make the snow falling and add it to the original footage.

A Warm Place

A warm place inside you.
That reminds you that there is a place inside you that nobody can reach, and nobody can take away from you, the peace and calm in your heart that will stay with you forever.

I present some artworks here which i prepared for the video game intro.

I have done the book, the helmet and the candles. Actually i dont like the modeling at all ... some kind of vertex tossing hehe... But the idea of making something ancient, something picturesque was intrigue me. Also I have prepared a wispy smoke. Finally I composed all layers together.

I drew very complex iron rusty texture, also prepared the displacement map...

The Smoke
The last but not least — the smoke, which covered everything in the scene. This is very important part for me so i did many tests until got what I wanted. This is the wispy smoke making by fluids. The calculation of fluids is not so painful as it turned.

Your porridge, sir!

Bon appetit!

...i have got used to do video about mobile operators or internet providers, that is why the creation of the video about porridge industry and advantages of the different kind of porridge became very unusual for me. And therefore usefull. )))

The video consist of two parts — the fist is the process of the production of cereals itself. There are a lot of machines, sewage disposal systems and other strange devices in it. So i decided to gloss some frames with stylize pictures drawing by hand.

Despite the simplicity of task i had not one day of working to achieve some results. I had to restore many skills of hand drawing, hehe.

Here are some fragments from the video. I added music track for the viewing process would not becomes so tedious.(song called "Green Hornet" by Al Hirt.....hope the Copyright Act won't affect me )))

Industrial Landscape

The landscape with the industrial construction in the foreground. This is sewage disposal system if my mind does not deceive me. Strange place ... but the representation of our days...






Drawing boxes

And another part is the representation of differert kind of the porridges. The sketch comes alive and turns into the box with porridge.

I used very simply tehniques to create drawing boxes — pre-animated texture was applyed to 3d box . Than i created an illusion of all drawning by the brush with different colors.
